Blidworth Welfare 7-0 Church Warsop S & SC

Saturday 23rd October 2010 - CML Supreme Division

Another visit to the Welfare Ground, but the football that Blidworth play is usually first rate for this level, so going there regularly is not really an issue. I had pencilled in the Arnold Tn v Pickering game and that finished 5-5 ....we are going to Eagle Valley on Tuesday - a 0-0 draw already anticipated!!!

Brian Reece from Rainworth was at the game, checking out one of the Blidworth players, but he left on the half-hour mark having seen enough! Can't say I blame him, the first 25 minutes were not very good - but after the Warsop defence failed to clear on 28, JASON EDWARDS latched onto a loose ball 12 yards from goal and the game took on a different complexion. DEAN RICK hit the first of his four in the 42nd minute. A Church Warsop corner was cleared well by the home defence and the clearance found Rick, who somehow managed to force the ball home despite being challenged by a defender.

No sooner had Warsop restarted the game, they were 3-0 down! The ball was played out left to Mark Ellison who slotted it across the goal to where brother SIMON ELLISON was waiting. The big striker missed his chance initially, but managed to turn well and fire home as the keeper allowed the ball to run loose. H-T 3-0

Blidworth's injured striker Dave Bramwell came and stood with us for the second half after taking time during the break to admire the ball skills of Lee Bowler....

DEAN RICK was tripped as he ran at goal on the hour mark, and Referee Mark Pursglove had no option other that to award a penalty to Blidworth that the striker successfully converted. The last time we saw Rick take a spot kick was at Sutton - he damaged some roof tiles on a house behind the goal on that occasion, but this time he hit the ball straight and true.

Rick hits the 4th from the spot . Mr. Pursglove awarded the home team another penalty on 68, and again DEAN RICK made no mistake from the spot. No idea why the penalty was given, but the Ref obviously saw some offence or other that we missed.

A few minutes later, Rick became the provider - sliding the ball across goal to give STEVE CARTY a simple tap in from close range.

It was 7-0 in the 85th minute, the home defence commiting suicide by failing to hook a ball clear, and when the keeper was left in no-mans land DEAN RICK was given the whole goal to blast the ball into......F-T 7-0

Rick gleefully blasts home his fourth and Blidworth's 7th!

After a turgid first half an hour or so, this game exploded into action and to be quite honest, Church Warsop had little or nothing to offer by way of a reply to Blidworth's generally superior play. Great performance by Dean Rick, held the line well and proved a right pain in the backside for the visiting defence.
