Kimberley Town 0-2 Clipstone Welfare

Thursday 31st March - CML Supreme Division

No Kev for this game - happily married for 27 years and wants to stay happily married for another 27, so he can't take in every game unless he wishes to be on the receiving end of divorce proceedings!!!

Plenty of parking spaces when I got to the Stag Ground, and when I walked into the clubhouse, Trev "Wheelchair" Williams, Mr. Mac and Simon Matters were already there.  Brian Dennett, of course, was there as well, but he was off nosing around for snippets of news again.  Always working is Brian....

Pleasantly surprised to see the line ups listed on a blackboard attached to the stand - that really does help -  putting names against the shirts.  Well done Kimberley - it ought to be made compulsory!

The Stag pitch looked to be in good nick, but it proved to be a bit bumpy, meaning that the players were unable to control the ball at times ... well, most of the time actually!

We had to wait until the 36th minute for the games opening goal - a cross from the right by Clippo no. 6 Stanton found KYE PILMORE some 15 yards from goal.  The no. 11 quickly controlled before hammering the ball past Simon Dye in the Kimberley net.

Then wouldn't you know it, you wait and wait for one goal, then another follows soon after.  This time it was a real belter from  BUCHANAN - a cracking drive from 25 yards that was in the net before Dye could react.  Tremendous strike.

Dye made a terrific save on 41, a spectacular dive to tip over Danny Tighe's rasper of a shot.  The keeper then had to face a penalty just a a minute later, after Reed had brought down Lee Wilson in the box.  Buchanan fired the spot kick wide, very wide of the goal, and when Brian asked him about it later, he said it was the worst penalty he had ever taken.  Can't see him taking many more!! H-T 0-2

Clipstone hit the post twice in the second half, but Kimberley gave almost as good as they got, and with a little luck could have maybe grabbed a point. Only last ditch defending kept Liam Edge out on more than one occasion, and Kimberley did manage to get  the ball into the Clippo net halfway through the second period, but the effort was disallowed for offside.  F-T 0-2
