At this game without Kev, but spent the 90 minutes in the splendid company of Peter Craggs, Richard and Ricky Lane. Forest Town took the lead on 30, doubled their lead three minutes later and added a third on 56 to secure the points. Odd to see an Under 19 team with squad numbers and the players names on the back of their shirts ... but the Brimington lads did look smart, although it didn't make them play any better! Blidworth Welfare 6-1 Pinxton FC

Tuesday 5th October 2010 -- CML Supreme Division.

Totally unexpected scoreline, and both teams deserve the highest praise for how this game was played. This was a terrific advert for the Central Midlands League, and the watching Frank Harwood and Rob Hornby must have been delighted at the standard of football on display at the Welfare Ground.

Referee Harry Hawkins and his Assistants also had a very good game, and although Pinxton suffered a heavy defeat, they played their part and actually took the lead, before Blidworth's clinical finishing made the score slightly unrealistic.

Blidworth striker Dave Bramwell asked me to mention his mazy run into the box, but even though I can't remember it, the big man gave us a fiver towards the APTCOO fund after the game, so if he says he made a terrific run into the box, I'll believe him! Big thanks to Dave -- and what made the gesture even better was the fact that he had been booked in the second half, another tenner gone!

Saturday 2nd October -- F.A. Vase 1st Round Proper.

Heanor Town (EMCL step 6) were 4-0 up at the break, but after their no. 5 Danny Cox was dismissed for "denying a goal-scoring opportunity", Clipstone (CMLS spep 7) fought back to 4-2, before their cavalier, go for it attitude cost them another couple of goals late in the game. Fair play to Welfare they never gave up and were still knocking the ball about well when the Ref called an end to proceedings.

Clipstone won a corner in the first minute, but from then on, the first half was all Heanor. Richard Giles tripped Gary Webster on 4, and when Graham Wells fired the ball into the area, Ashley Grayson only just failed to connect with a header. The home team were only denied for a further three minutes though, GARY WEBSTER crashing a superb volley from the corner of the box goalwards, and despite a valiant effort by keeper Jordan Riley, the shot had too much pace and ended up in the back of the net.

In the 14th minute, Jason Hardy saw his effort hit the bar, but the home team doubled their lead on 20 after WEBSTER pounced on a great through ball to lash past Riley from 18 yards. Nathan Benger then rattled the Clippo bar with a sweetly struck free-kick, and soon after Hardy hit the post with an overhead effort as the Lions turned the screw.

On the half-hour mark, Lance Mulligan brought out a good save from home keeper Mark Frost, but as the ball was cleared up the field, it was played into the Clippo area where ASHLEY GRAYSON found space some 12 yards from goal, and somehow managed to loop a header over Riley. As we were queing for a half-time brew, JASON HARDY carried the ball into the box from the right and hammered a great shot home, with keeper Riley well beaten. H-T 4-0

Cuppa was very nice, and although it was served in the type small styrofoam cups, it was only ten bob, so no complaints.

The second half was only 10 minutes old when Heanor defender Danny Cox was dismissed after tripping Louis Green, denying the Clippo fullback a goalscoring opportunity. Danny Tighe saw his free-kick well saved by Frost, but the loose ball was gleefully smashed home by RICHARD GILES.

Benger hit the bar on the hour mark, but Clipstone were looking the more dangerous - they had pushed three forward, Lee Wilson joining Mulligan and Dean Short up top. The visitors pulled another goal back on 70, another Tighe free-kick well met by DEAN SHORT - his flicked back header beating Frost all ends up. Frost was forced into a diving save from Short soon after, but Heanor were not finished and put the outcome of the game beyond doubt when LEE ASKHAM hammered home from a free-kick fired in from the right.

Then came the goal of the game - Askham raced down the left after receiving the ball 40 yards from goal and then played a superb ball into Tom Norris in the box. Norris steadied himself before sliding an inch perfect pass to NATHAN BENGER who calmly slotted home from 6 yards out. Wonderful goal - if only my writing could do justice to this stunning effort!!!! Heanor keeper Mark Frost - Kev asked him why he had been booked in the first half --- apparently after a Clipstone attack had broken down, Frost had meant to boot the loose ball into the back of his net - and accidentally smashed it over the bar!!! The Ref booked him for time-wasting! You got a tenner for the fine, Frosty?
