Blidworth Welfare 4-0 Newark Town

Tuesday 28th September -- CML Supreme Division.
Lots of people present at the Welfare Ground, but it seemed that a lot of CML passes were used, and a lot of Referee passes as well! Fredkirkbytown did the headcount, and made it 105 -- no idea how many paid, but it does show the pulling power of new look Blidworth Welfare.

The home team starting line-up actually contained 5 of the players who were in the Newark team that beat Blidworth last season, namely, Steve Carty, Tom Mallinson, Simon Ellison, Mark Ellison and Dave Issott.

Blidworth : Stanhope, Mallinson, Pride, McGurk, Hollingworth, Issott, Edwards, Carty, Ellison S, Ellison M, Haslam. Subs all used : Allan, Gould, Wells

Newark: Riley, Pierce, Turtle, O'Looney, Wilson, Roche, Wilford, Greenfield, Fraser, Hillier, Porter. Subs all used: Nuttall, Purves, Hurst.

Spent the first part of the game in the company of Fred, then we had the pleasure of young Referee Scott Mason's company.

Blidworth went for Newark's throat from the off, and were given the chance to go ahead when Carl Haslam was tripped as he ran into the box in the 7th mniute. Referee Andy Dallison awarded the spot kick that HASLAM duly blasted past Newark keeper Chris Riley.

Edwards saw his effort clatter the post on 11, then Simon Ellison also rattled the woodwork after 24 as the home team piled on the pressure. The second goal came on the half hour, a cross in from the right flicked into his own net by Town defender Phil Turtle.

The home team added their third 3 minutes later, again a cross from the right wing that STEVE CARTY volleyed sweetly past Riley. On 38, Haslam won a challenge in midfield, and raced after the loose ball. He was beaten in the chase for the ball by team-mate SIMON ELLISON who fired past Riley from 18 yards out. H-T 4-0

Not a lot to write home about in the second half. Riley did well to dive and save from Simon Ellison on 56, then Joe Hurst cleared a Bradley Wells header off the line on 70. Newark forced Stanhope into making a save with a couple of minutes to go, but this was probably one of the Blidworth keepers least busy games ever. No more goals in the second half, but with Blidworth facing a tough game in the Vase at Dunkirk on Saturday, you can't really blame their players for easing off a little in the second half, although it has to be said that Newark did perform much better in the second period than they had in the first. Arnold U19 2-5 Handsworth U19

Monday 27th September -- North Midlands U19 Football League Div 1....

I wasn't going to write a blog entry for this game - it was a bonus game that I was going to take in on my own and do nothing other than watch the game with no notes, no pics etc.

As it turned out this was a splendid game of U19 football, with the players all totally committed to their respected causes, and this meant we were treated to a cracking 90 display. I say we, because I spent the game in the company of Richard "Wanderer" Lane, and we both enthused about the amount of young footballing talent on show.

This is where young talent should be playing -- and playing against their peers can only enhance their game.....

Richard had arrived at the ground a few minutes before me, and because there were hardly any cars in the car-park and the floodlights weren't switched on, he had turned around to go back to Newark! Luckily for him, as he was leaving the carpark the lights went on. I suspect he would have been a bit upset if he had gone home only to see that the game had gone ahead and he had missed a 7 goal treat.

The main reason for penning this entry is to say thank you to the players of Arnold Town and Handsworth - you dished up a treat - the only blot on the copybook was a bit of hand bags after the Referee awarded Handsworth a very odd penalty in the final minute of the game.

Scoring went as follows:-
Arnold 1-0 on 13 (no.10)
Handsworth 1-1 on 27 (no. 7)
Handsworth 1-2 on 30 (no. 11)
Arnold 2-2 on 35 (no. 8)
Handsworth 2-3 on 48 (no. 9)
Handsworth 2-4 on 67 (no. 10)
Handsworth 2-5 on 94 (no. 10 pen)

Admission £2 (inc programme)

Head count 50 (mostly parents of the players)

Next up - will be in the company of Wanderer again on 28th, as Newark Town visit Blidworth Welfare...

F.A. Cup 3rd Qualifying Round

After seeing off Oadby Town of the Midland Football Alliance, the reward for Radcliffe Olympic is a home tie with Tipton Town. Tipton also ply their trade in the MFA, but unlike Oadby, who are struugling near the foot of the table, Tipton sit proudly at the top of the tree, unbeaten in their 11 league games this season. Tough task for Radcliffe, but this is the F.A. Cup, and Tipton should take nothing for granted. The winners of the Eastwood v Stafford Rangers replay will travel to Causeway Lane to take on Matlock Town. Ties to be played on Saturday 9th October. Spoiled?

When me and Kev go to a game, we usually know what to expect, and what facilites will be on hand. We seem to be a little spoiled at the venues we visit compared to regular Tony Kempster forum poster Dan Bishop..... "Leicestershire Senior League Division One Lutterworth Town 0-2 Newhall United Admission: No, Programme: No, Food: No, Drink: No, Cover: No, Hard-Standing: No Stretcher: No, Good Football: Good God No, Attendance: Yes! – 11 (h/c)
Banality, thy name is Lutterworth Soccer Centre. In addition to it’s gratuitous use of the ‘s’ word, the sign states without a hint of irony that it’s ‘where all the fun kicks off’, despite offering all the fun of a mild bladder infection. Large car parking in support of both the main pitch, and the adjoining 3G small sided pitches, with a shared new-build dressing room complex. The ground itself is spectacularly non-descript, separately fenced off on three sides with trees separating the far side from the main road, and fully-railed. No hard-standing or cover, they do have floodlights though. The welcome from the hosts committee was, as ever for this league, lukewarm, getting information on where the away dressing room, drinking water etc was like extracting teeth. There is an upstairs bar facility, but was out of bounds due to a private function. There was a couple of fully-stocked vending machines in the complex foyer, but these were switched off, therefore there were no refreshments in sight whatsoever. The game itself was execrable in the first-half, rising to merely tepid in the second. Pretty standard LSL fare. Newhall created, and missed, a couple of half-chances as the interval approached. The only occurrence of real note was the injury to a Lutterworth player who looked and sounded in some distress after falling awkwardly in the centre of the park, and obviously unable to continue. However, with no stretcher forthcoming it was left to four team-mates to grab a limb each and remove him from the field of play as though they were about to leg-and-a-wing him over the barriers. Second-half was a marginal improvement, and Whetton pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the box twenty minutes from time, and Dent put the game beyond doubt with a composed finish on 89 minutes. Whichever official from the home side thought it would be funny to lock myself and three players in the dressing room for 15 minutes afterwards - and respond to our hammering and shouting with a witty f**k off – it wasn’t, and it just made you look pathetic. It’s hard to be enthusiastic about the football at this level, which has undeniably plummeted in standard since my last sojourn 8 years ago".
Thanks Dan - great post, and it will certainly make me think twice before complaining about our local games/venues/facilities ever again ......

Carlton Town 0-1 Matlock Town

Saturday 25th September -- F.A. Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

We left for Stoke Lane a little earlier than we would usually as we wanted to secure a prime parking place. Thankfully not many people had had the same idea, and there was plenty of room. On entering the ground, we went in search of Kev's work colleague and Matlock Town nut Phil Mumby. Strangely we found him pitchside - usually he is in the bar have a few pre-match bevies! Apparently he had just nipped outside for a minute and his beer was waiting for him inside..... Called Brian Dennett to see if he could provide a copy of the team sheet..... Brian never fails to come up with the goods - thanks, mate.

Shake

Matlock were very quick out of the blocks and Carlton seemed to back off and maybe paid their visitors a little too much respect. The Gladiators had a great chance to go in front in the 5th minute when Ross Hannah found Kris Bowler in the area - unfortunately for the visitors Bowler's diving header was saved well by Carlton keeper Neil West.

Bowler diving header

Hannah then tried his luck with a drive on 11, then seconds later he played in KRIS BOWLER who fired at goal and saw his shot take a wicked deflection to leave West stranded as the ball flew past him. West's goal was under constant pressure and in the 23rd minute he had to be alert to save from Colin Marrison, the 90 seconds later the keeper saved well from Hannah after the strikers turn in the box had left his marker for dead.

Bowler wheels away after scoring

Carlton's first real chance came on the half-hour mark - a neat ball into the box by Mark Clarke met well by Joe Naylor, but the midfielder's header just cleared the crossbar. H-T 0-1

Matlock had a chance to double their lead on 48, but Hannah's effort crashed into the side netting. This seemed to galvanise the home team who gradually applied more and more pressure on Adam Solletts' goal. Sollett did really well to keep out a Neil Grayson close range effort with his legs, and all of a sudden Carlton looked like they might grab at least a replay..

Grayson saw one shot cannon off the post, but despite their best efforts, Carlton failed to beat the excellent Sollett. Marrison was shown a straight red on 71 for a poor challenge on Rob Darkin. Just seconds earlier, Carlton's Mark Clarke had been in an aerial tussle with Marrison and the Matlock player seemed determined to show he was not going to be pushed around.

Marrison and Clarke

Referee Hobbis was only a couple of yards from the incident and had no other choice than to send Marrison from the field of play. Carlton skipper Ashley Kitchen saw yellow on 81 for a rash challenge, and was almost made to pay dearly when the resultant free-kick was headed tamely wide by Hannah from 6 yards out. F-T 0-1

Off you go, Son

So, Carlton bow out of the Cup, but can put this result out of their minds on Wednesday as they get back to league action at home to Market Drayton Town. Matlock left Stoke Lane with their share of the takings, plus the £4500 prize fund, and a place in the draw for the next round.

Kimberley Town 1-5 Dronfield Town

Thursday 23rd September - CML Supreme Division. This game was noticable for the lack of talent on view. None of the 22 players or substitues were known to us, and all were instantly forgettable. Dronfield may have won 5-1, but this was one of, if not THE worst game of the season so far.

Kimberley have yet to register a point in the CML Supreme Division, this made it played 7, lost 7. Dronfield will go top of the league after this result, but they will have to play better than this in the future if they want to stay there.
No. 6 scored for Dronfield on 26, then 10 minutes later no. 9 added two inside a minute. The visitors' no. 10 added the fourth just before the break. H-T 0-4

The best goal was the Dronfield fifth after 51 minutes - a corner in from the right headed powerfully home at the far post by the no.6 jacket. Kimberley's no. 11 netted on 56, but interest wained as the game dragged on and we were only too pleased to leave the Stag Ground -- the high point was that another £1.80 went into the APTCOO pot! Sutton Town AFC 1-4 Blidworth Welfare

Wednesday 22nd September -- CML Supreme Division

When Sutton Town AFC Treasurer / Programme editor Anton Lancashire asked if he could use the blog report and a picture from the STAFC v Heanor game in the match programme, little did I know that he would use the picture on the front cover!

The report covered a double centre page spread and it was good to see that one or two of my errors in the report were corrected! One major cock-up was getting the first Sutton scorer wrong!!
Anton handed over a copy of the programme as we entered the ground - and then made our night before a ball was kicked, by donating our £3 each entry fee to APTCOO.... what a great gesture and much appreciated. Unfortunately for Sutton, APTCOO also benefitted from the scoreline. All in all, the APTCOO fund was increased by £7.50 from this game !

The game was only 5 minutes old when a very whistle happy Referee Mr. Craig Lasngton decided to book Welfare's Lee Bowler. Daniel O' Donnell followed in the 10th minute, then the Blidworth no. 6 Dave Issott three minutes later. Likes to hear his whistle does Mr. Langton!!

Sutton took the lead at Heanor on Saturday, and then went on to concede four. This game was to follow in the same vein when JEREMY KABIA (thanks, Bram!!) was on hand on 18 to stab home and put the Snipes ahead, after a great run down the left by Lheureux Menga saw him fend off a couple of challenges before firing the ball across the box.

Blidworth's equalising goal after 30 minutes was the proverbial comedy of errors - a long punt from midfield by Steve Carty was attacked by Sutton keeper Brad Mimms and Welfare striker DEAN RICK. The players came together on the edge of the area and somehow or other the ball squirted loose and trickled into the net!

Welfare right back Ricky Chambers was the next in the Refs book - again an innocuous challenge - Rick also saw yellow soon after. Blidworth increased their lead soon after the restart, again DEAN RICK on the mark, firing home powerfully into the roof of the net with Mimms well beaten. Rick had the chance to complete his triple on 74 after Mr. Langton saw an infringement in the Sutton area and awarded a penalty. The striker looked confident as he ran up to take the spot-kick ..... unfortunately he cleared the crossbar, cleared the fence behind the goal, and may have cracked a couple of tiles on the roof of one of the houses behind the goal!

The visitors went in front right on half-time when great work from Carl Haslam and a neat back-heel from Rick gave JASON EDWARDS space to hammer home. H-T 1-2

Welfare did increase their lead two minutes later - this time CARL HASLAM weaving his way past a couple of Town defenders before firing past Mimms.

Blidworth made it nap-hand of caurtions when keeper Paul Stanhope was booked for some reason or other - an offence(!) that warranted a free-kick to Sutton some 10 yards from goal. The kick was placed well enough, but as usual in this situation, the amount of bodies on the goal line meant that the ball was cleared away to safety. F-T 1-4

Enjoyed the game despite the Referee's best effort to spoil the entertainment. The cautions must have had some effect though - none of the offenders managed to incur the wrath of Mr. Langton a second time, and the game ended with 22 players on the pitch, something that looked very unlikely as the first half bookings mounted up.

Admission £3 -- donated by STAFC to APTCOO Programme £1 -- donated by STAFC to me! H/C --- just a quick count got me to 90 -- but apparently there were a lot of League passes - these boost the attendance but not the coffers...... Next up - more CMLS action as Kimberley Town host Dronfield Town

Rainworth MW 0-3 Carlton Town

Tuesday 21st September --- Evo-Stik Presidents Cup Preliminary Round.

Both teams went with a mix of first team and reserves, but on paper the Carlton team looked the stronger of the two - you would expect Kitchen, Clarke, Grayson, Hall, Thornton, Fletcher and Gardner all to start against Matlock on Saturday. Rainworth welcomed back Barry Alberry - "Baz" has retired from the game on more than one occasion !!

The teams cancelled each other out for most of the first half, and the trusty notepad stayed in my pocket. There were a few chances, but none to get the pulse racing. H-T 0-0

Carlton started the second period at a much quicker pace, and were ahead on 52 when CURTIS SHAW received the ball in the Rainworth box and stepped neatly around a defender before slotting past keeper Sam Dobbs.

Rainworth looked a little lightweight up front, and rarely troubled Danny Marshall in the Millers goal. Ashley Kitchen was a rock in the centre of the Carlton defence, and with Nick Hall controlling the midfield, there was not a lot Rainworth could do to break the visitors down. The only surprise was that it took until the 87th minute for Carlton to make the tie secure - this time ALEX TROUGHTON side-footing home after the ball was played into the area from the left. CURTIS SHAW added the Millers third in the 4th minute of added time, a fierce drive from 20+ yards that gave Dobbs no chance . F-T 0-3

Heanor Town 4-2 Sutton Town AFC

Saturday 18th September -- F.A. Vase 2nd Qualifying Round at the Town Ground, Heanor.

EMCL v CMLS -- from what was posted on the EMCL forum, this was a "gimme" for Heanor, but Sutton gave as good as they got throughout the game, and new Boss Jason Kabia must have been impressed with his teams performance.

Snipes' new Manager Jason Kabia

The teams line up for the handshake ritual

Sutton Tn AFC kick off

Sutton included Daniel O'Donnell and Dean Hadley, both returning after a spell away from Sutton. Heanor keeper Mark Frost has Sutton among his previous clubs, and he was as surprised as anyone when GRANT HEMSLEY put the visitors in front on 28. After a free-kick into the box had rebounded off the cross-bar, Hemsley had the simple task of nodding the ball gently into an empty net from a few yards out.

The lead lasted barely two minutes though, RYAN CANCELLARA lashing the ball home with the outside of his right foot, leaving Sutton keeper Bradley Mimms grasping at thin air. Seconds later Heanor no. 10 Tom Morrison did well to force his way into the Heanor box, and was unlucky to see his shot smack the foot of the post. The rebound was somehow hit back at goal, and only a last ditch off the line clearance kept the scores level. Heanor were by this time applying severe pressure to the Sutton back line, and were deservedly ahead in the 38th minute when a Graham Wells corner from the right was met with a thumping header by ASHLEY GRAYSON. H-T 2-1

Heanor celebrate Grayson's goal

Heanor's no. 9, Jason Hardy had a golden chance to increase his teams lead with 10 played in the second half, but when the ball fell kindly to him a couple of yards from goal, the youngster managed to steer it just wide. The home team did increase their lead on the hour mark, and it was the simplest of goals. Richard Hodgman launched a throw-in into the box and tall centre-back ADAM KAY rose well to flick the ball into the net.

Adam Kay rises to head home Heanor's third

On 67, Sutton were reduced to 10 men as they lost a player to injury. Having just sent on both their named substitutes a few minutes earlier, Kabia must have been wondering if there was a way back for his team. As it happened there was - O'Donnell did well to make space before finding Kyle Jordan who in turn picked out LHEUREYX MENGA. The big striker controlled superbly before lobbing the ball from the corner of the box over advancing Heanor keeper Frost.

The home team ensured they would advance in the competition in the 40th minute - ASHLEY GRAYSON again on the scoresheet, this time a 30 yard drive that took a wicked deflection before crashing in off the post. F-T 4-2

Teams :
Heanor - Frost, Whitehead J, Hodgson, Stevenson, Kay, Cancellara, Webster, Grayson, Hardy, Morrison, Wells

Snipes - Mimms, Hemsley R, Simpson, Shackleton, Hemsley G, Whitehead S, Evans, Hadley, Hall, Menga, O' Donnell

Sutton Town AFC under new management looked a decent side, and no doubt Kabia will be signing a few more players soon as the Snipes look to kick-start their CMLS season.

Heanor did enough to secure the win, and can now look forward to entertaining another CMLS side in the 1st Round Proper. Clipstone Welfare edged out Kimberley Town 2-1 in their tie.

Carlton Town Res 11-1 Teversal Res

CMFL Reserve Supreme Division - Thursday 16th September, played at Stoke Lane.

Carlton Town Committte man, Mr. Brian "Evening Post" Dennett told us about this re-arranged game, then didn't turn up himself! Moor fool him!

Arrived at the ground with five minutes to spare, and managed to have a chat with Tevie's football Secretary Kev Newton before kick off. He did warn us that there would be a few goals - his team was very makeshift, even to the extent that they only had one substitute. Carlton lined up with plenty of experience : first team squad members Antwon Bonnick, Warren Hatfield, Mark Clarke, Luke Smith and Michael Martin all started the game Not writing a report, just basically a list of the goals.......

Carlton no.9 DENNIS SIMMS opened the scoring on 4, after Bonnick's powerful run and cross left him with a simple tap in from close range. SIMMS made it 2-0 six minutes later, a delicate lob from 20 yards over keeper Ben Smith. Tevie gave away a free kick 20 yards from goal in the 25th minute - ANTWON BONNICK hammered the ball through the Tevie wall, past Smith and into the net.

Hatfield made a great run into the box on the half-hour mark, before picking out no. 7 MITCH ( full name not known) who slotted past Smith. It was 5-0 on 43, a superb through ball from Luke Smith latched onto by BONNICK who beat his marker before firing home. H-T 5-0

It got worse for Tevie in the 57th minute - losing a player to injury with no more subs on the bench meant they had to play the rest of the game with just 10 men. BONNICK completed his hat-trick on 62, hitting the ball home from the corner of the box - he had clearly shouted "leave-it" as the ball was played forward to him, but the goal was allowed to stand. Seconds later it was 7-0, Simms firing the ball across the Tevie goal to where Carlton no. 15 shirt was waiting to bundle home at the far stick.

BONNICK netted again from the edge of the box on 74, but again was clearly heard to have shouted " leave-it" in the build up. Both the linesman and Referee chose to ignore this and the goal was, yet again, allowed to stand. Seconds later, the Millers' no. 14 was on the scoresheet hammering home from close range after great work by Mitch. DENNIS SIMMS completed his personal treble in the 77th minute, lashing the ball home from the edge of the area. Then came the biggest cheer of the evening - Tevie's no. 6 reduced the deficit to 10-1 on 80 after poor defending allowed him room to shoot.

Carlton added their 11th goal just before the final whistle, their no. 15 shirt on target again. F-T 11-1 So, Kev Newton was right, but Tevie played well inbetween goals, and although they knew they were in for a battering, they never let their heads drop, and came out of this game with a lot of pride and a lot of respect from the 40 odd that were present.

Saturday - FA Vase action -- Heanor Town v Sutton Town AFC. Should be a good test for new Snipes boss Jason Kabia !!

Blidworth Welfare 4-2 Clipstone Welfare

Tuesday night at the ( Blidworth) Welfare ground -- CMFL Supreme Division.

Usually enjoy evening games at Blidworth - the banter is normally spot-on, with the football often taking second place. Nowadays though, Brett Marshall seems to have put together a squad that could well be challenging for honours at the end of the season, and the addition of Simon and Mark Ellison has enhanced an already talented bunch of players.
Had a chat with Brett before kick off and then Peter Craggs Jnr. came by to have a bit of a chin-wag, and mentioned that every time he sees Lance Mulligan play, he never lasts the full 90 minutes - tonight was to be no exception.

Mulligan had the first real chance of the game for Clipstone in the 9th minute, but Blidworth keeper Paul Stanhope did well, forcing the striker to slide just wide. It was the visitors who looked the more dangerous, and they duly took the lead on 21, Blidworth defender LEE BOWLER playing the ball into his own net from a free-kick played in at the near post. Straight after, Blidworth midfielder Jamie Allen made a great run into the Clippo area, but saw his shot fly off the post and away to safety.

In the 26th minute, the home team were awarded a free-kick 25 yards from goal - JASON EDWARDS ran up and hammered the ball a straight as an arrow into the top corner, with the keeper rooted to the spot. Clipstone eased ahead on 33, their no. 8 lashing home a neat volley after racing unmarked into the box. Blidworth stormed back into the game and were level again after 35 minutes - this time DEAN RICK collecting on the edge of the box before dancing around his marker and slotting past the keeper. H-T 2-2 and I suspect some paint would be coming off the changing room walls judging by the look on Mr.Marshalls face!!

The teams came out for the second half a few minutes early - but within 5 minutes of the restart, we had seen a penalty awarded and saved, and a player dismissed! The penalty was given for a trip, but Blidworth's Carl Haslam saw his shot well saved by the Clippo keeper. As the ball was played up field though, Mulligan leapt for the ball, but was adjudged to have handled - a second yellow, followed by the inevitable red. Mr. Craggs strikes again!

After an hour, Blidworth took the lead in bizarre circumstances. When a Clipstone player was injured, Referee Eddie Pidduck stopped the game, and Blidworth duly did the sporting gesture of playing the ball back to the keeper. His clearance was muffed a little though, and landed at the feet of JASON EDWARDS on the half-way line - the Blidworth no. 7 duly fired it back, straight into the net! Didn't see that coming !!

On 62, a pinpoint pass from Simon Ellison some 40 yards from goal, found EDWARDS on the edge of the box and he controlled superbly before rifling the ball past the keeper. Great move, great finish - and what a hat-trick! A 25 yard free-kick, a 50 yard lob, and a precise slot from 15 yards - how good does it get!!! F-T 4-2

Plough Barflys 2-2 Trowsers

Sunday 12th September --- after missing out on Saturday due to circumstances beyond my control, I decided to take in a Notts Sunday League game in an attempt to cure my withdrawal symptoms. The game between Plough Barflys and Trowsers was played at Watnall Road, on the pitch next to the main Hucknall Town stadium. I used to go to watch Sunday league games regularly when my lad played for Spot On about five years ago, so had an idea of what standard to expect, but the first half was awful - right up to the 44th minute when DAVID MARLOW latched onto the ball in the box and slid it past the Trowsers keeper. H-T 1-0

The teams served up a much better second half, plenty of chances, three more goals and a sending off. Barflys went 2-0 up on 55 when Marlow's neat cross was bundled home by no. 14 shirt JOE ASHURST. A few minutes later, the same player made a great run down the left and crashed a shot at goal that the visiting keeper did well to tip round the post.

Trowsers pulled one back in the 66th minute - Jody Hughes saw his shot from 20 yards cannon off the bar, and the right back, wearing the no.12 shirt, was on hand to tap home. He looked to be in an offside position when the initial ball was struck, and the linesman did flag for the offence, but after consultation he was over-ruled by Referee Liam Jones.

The visitors were level with 8 minutes left on the clock, when a corner from the left was hit to the far post where PAUL WILLIAMS was on hand to rise like a salmon and head powerfully home. This brought an outburst of foul and abusive from the Barfly's keeper - he called a team-mate a "f****** d***" -- and I can only assume that because there were quite a few women and children present, the Ref considered the language inappropriate and duly sent the keeper from the field of play. Ashurst took over in the sticks, and he coped admirably on the couple of occasions he was called into action. F-T 2-2

Not able to get to a game -- scheduled to go to Hucknall Rolls v Bilborough Pelican, but urgent family matters needed attending to, and family must come first. No matter -- whatever the score at Rolls, APTCOO will still benefit -- it's not their fault I couldn't get to the game. Might just try a Sunday League game to ease the withdrawal symptoms - Plough Barflys are at home to Trowsers, the game to be played at Watnall Road, Hucknall with a 10:30am kick off.

South Normanton Ath 9-3 Nottingham United

Central Midlands Football League Premier Division

Weds 8th September will be remembered by us for a long while -- Normo were 7-1 up at the break, but Nottingham managed to salvage some pride by drawing the second half 2-2. It has to be said though that the home team went off the boil a little in the second period, but credit United for at least making a fist of it in the final 45........

Guest list included:
Serial hopper Aggedor and his entourage
Kev's work colleague and Matlock Town fanatic Phil Mumby
Phils friends ( and now ours) Chris and Carole Daglish
Kieron DeBrouwer and Wayne Cooke of Pinxton FC
Jane and Gary Eadie - now working with Athletic - formally with Eastwood Town

Normo went in front in just the 4th minute, CORY BOWLER firing home from the edge of the box. ANDY WHITE was next on the scoresheet on 8, a controlled turn and shot from close range flying past United keeper Omar Murtaza. TOM LEIGHTON added the third after 12 minutes, beating his marker before slotting past Murtaza at the second attempt.

Bowler was proving a menace down the Normo left, and on 15 he played the ball into the box to White, but as the former Stags front-man was about to pull the trigger, he was tripped and Referee Andy Thistlewood had no other choice than to award a penalty. WHITE stepped up and hammered the ball past Murtaza, who to his credit did get his fingers to it, but it was struck so well he had little real chance of saving.

So, 16 gone and 4-0 ...a goal every 4 minutes - and they kept on coming -- BOWLER grabbed his second in the 21st minute running through the Nottingham back-line before firing home. WHITE completed his hat-trick after 25 minutes, a powerful header from a right wing corner. LEIGHTON added the seventh on 33, the ball laid neatly into his path allowing him to lash the ball home without breaking stride. Unbelievably, Nottingham scored the next goal, their diminutive no. 10 calmly stroking the ball past Dave O'Hare in the Athletic net after he was given too much room to run into. H-T 7-1

Went to visit Phil, Chris and Carole at half-time - they had watched proceedings from just outside the bar. Talk about looking at home -- I think they were having a good time, judging by the number of empty glasses on their table!!

The second half was never going to be as good as the first - Normo made a couple of changes - changes that seemed to allow United a little more time on the ball. The home team added to their tally on 55 when LIAM KELLY headed home from a Bowler corner.

The game entered a rather dull period for 25 minutes, then Nottingham scored again! A cross headed back across the goal where it was tapped into the net. (I didn't get the number of the scorer,). Another penalty award to Normo after 87 gave LEIGHTON the chance to complete his triple from the spot, and the skipper made no mistake placing the ball to Murtaza's right. The visitors were to have the last word though, their no. 9 netting right on full time. F-T 9-3

Admission £2 H/C 50 Programme £1 Chris Daglish handed me £2 after the game - a fantastic gesture - APTCOO gained a total of £5.60 from this game alone !! Thanks Chris....see you soon I hope.

Saturday -- not made my mind up yet .. Kev's off to the coast, so "Billy No-Mates" won't be wandering too far!!
